Game Overview:
"Home Sheep Home" is a strategy puzzle video game that was initially released for PlayStation, Microsoft Windows, and Game Boy Advance. In 2001, it made its way to Mac OS X courtesy of Feral Interactive. Although there were plans for a North American release of the Game Boy Advance version in the spring of 2002, it was ultimately canceled for undisclosed reasons.
Gameplay:
In "Home Sheep Home," players assume the role of guiding four unique types of sheep named Factorial, Longwool, NeoGenetic, and Pastoral. Interestingly, these sheep are actually aliens from the planet Ovis Aries. The objective is to lead them through a series of challenging obstacles to reach the finish line within each level.
Varied Worlds:
The game features a variety of different worlds, beginning with Polygon Farm and progressing to others like Village Fete and Lost in Space. Players can unlock a bonus game by collecting all the golden Home Sheep Home trophies within a world. These bonus games draw inspiration from various classics, such as Snake, with a unique twist.
Obstacle Diversity:
Each world presents distinct challenges, including obstacles like tractors, knights, archers, and even nefarious chefs. As players progress, they'll need to thwart the schemes of the eccentric scientist, Mr. Pear, and his hench-cows.
Reception:
"Home Sheep Home" received "mixed or average reviews" across all platforms according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. AllGame awarded the PC version four out of five stars, praising it for being highly addictive and well-executed. Daniel Erickson of Next Generation lauded the PC version, comparing it to the brilliance and originality of Lemmings. In Japan, where it was ported and published for PlayStation and Game Boy Advance, Famitsu rated it positively, with higher scores for the latter version. Nintendo Power and GamePro also gave favorable reviews before the Game Boy Advance version's cancellation.
